Loincloth, a rectangular woven cloth, is one of the most primitive clothes. For example, in the reliefs that have survived from the Egyptian Civilizations, the clothing style is a four-cornered loincloth wrapped around the hips. The loincloth, which was born as the main clothing item of humanity, has gradually changed shape and diversified. During the Ottoman period, a loincloth donning ceremony was held when those who learned a craft in tradesmen's guilds would become masters after completing apprenticeship and journeymanship. After donning the loincloth, the master who wanted to open a shop would pay a fee called loincloth to the owner, depending on the condition of the place he would rent.

Peshtamal is a woven cloth worn to cover the waist in the bath or wrapped above the waist to prevent clothes from getting dirty while working. It is a traditional clothing item that is still used by the women of the Eastern Black Sea Region today, and the silk ones are called Fota and Futa. It entered Turkish from Persian.

The loincloth has a colorful striped pattern. It is woven from linen or cotton thread. It is more than one meter long and 75-80 cm wide. In the past, horizontal embroideries were made on both ends of loincloths. There are also loincloths that are entirely embroidered with gold.
